Understanding How Many Calories in Wine

Many of us enjoy a glass of Red Wine, but if you’re on a calorie-controlled diet, it’s worth double checking how many calories the average glass of wine contains.

Generally, a glass of 125 ml of light bodied red wine at 13.0 vol% will have around 109 calories, however, SLW Red wine contains just 75 kcal per 125ml, as well as no Sugar, Carbs, Fat, Saturates, Protein and Salt (it’s also vegan!). It also contains 50% less sulphites than many other wines.

This is where some of the skeptical will say, “well my normal red wine has less calories” and then you realise the alcohol content is lower, it still has Carbs, Fat, Saturates, Protein and Salt. A higher alcohol content typically means more calories, so a glass of red wine with 14% alcohol by volume (ABV) will have slightly more calories than one with 12% ABV and vice versa.
